Bernauer Straße was once a typical street. Working class buildings  from the beginning of the 20th century stood there. They were pulled down after the wall was built there, which then marked one side of that street. Today the face of the street has completly changed. Just the memorial with a remaining walled part of the former death strip reminds of the past.
